A useful project can save time. A passion project can give us a reason to spend time on something we love.
Our astronomy and Starfleet projects belong in that second category. Working with Kepler, we have been exploring those interests through the Astronomy Academy and the Starfleet Astrometrics & Cartography Network. The literary reference sites grew from another pleasure: returning to the work of Erle Stanley Gardner and Robert A. Heinlein.
There is no need to turn every interest into a business case. Sometimes the reason is simply that we would enjoy having a place to explore it.
That curiosity also reaches into reading and journalism. XT.PT, built in collaboration with Prelo, covers technology. The Daily, built with Ardina, brings a news digest to Roger’s inbox and gives it a newspaper home on the web.
Ardina proposed his own name. For Roger, it recalled the newspaper sellers he remembered from childhood in Portugal. A new way of receiving the news arrived with an old, familiar word.
These projects are different in subject and purpose. What connects them is the opportunity to follow an interest further, with collaborators who help us make something of it.
